How to use a fire extinguisher for maximum impact
From Joe Littleton
Position yourself about six feet of the fire. Then…..
“PASS”
P – Pull the pin. It may be restrained by a plastic cable. Pull hard.
A – Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire, not at the top.
S – Squeeze the handle to start the flow of extinguishing agent
S – Sweep the nozzle slowly from one side of the base of the fire to the other. Focus on putting all the agent on/in the fire.
Most home and boat extinguishers will last 20 to 30 seconds. If the fire is not out at that point, leave the fire and escape.
Remember PASS.
