Art Buswell and Doris Gentry-Buswell led a group of WYA members on an effort to set up a tailgate display at the 2011 Stratford Hall Coaching Days.  The effort paid off as we won the Grand Prize for best Tailgate display!  Some notes and pictures are shown below.
We started the planning weeks ago at Harry and Lori's place in King George.  Lori developed the theme of the Titanic for the Tailgate display.  Buzz and Doris, having done a Stratford Hall tailgate several times before became the leaders and mentors in the effort that resulted in WYA winning the Grand Prize for Tailgate display.

On Saturday before Coaching Days we gathered at the Buswell's for a work party to put together all the work completed over the last weeks.  We also welcomed our newest member, Linda Weaver with her burgee.

Here is the 20 foot 100+ year old steam powered launch Pocahontas, owned by Bill Bowman, that we used to dress up as the Titanic.  At far right we are just starting to put the boat together after hauling it to Stratford Hall.

Bill Seay and Bill Bowman relax a bit on coaching days after we have the boat replica put together.  The two Bill's were playing steerage class passengers for the tailgate event.  Everyone had to play a character from the event.  George Cajigal and Buzz Buswell check out one of the replica boarding passes for the maiden and last voyage of the Titanic.  George played the ship's designer while Buzz played the doomed Captain.

You see the boat replica complete here and on the far right you see the entire WYA group involved in the event dressed in period clothes.   Harry played John Astor, and on and on it went.   Note the dinning table just before them.  It included place settings painted by our crew to match the Titanic flatware.  We served the same menu as was served on that fateful day when the ship went down.

A close up of a menu card and place setting is shown here, just before you see the judges mixing with the WYA group who were acting out their parts; Doris (playing Rose's Mother)  hovers  near Lori who played Rose.

You can tell from the Judges' reaction we were a hit.  Everyone worked hard but smiled and laughed along the way to make this a darn good day.  After the judging we walked around Stratford Hall to see the sites that included some beautiful coaches from the Robert E. Lee period.

Lori and Harry stand on each side of Polly while they share a glass of wine.  I think they were toasting Lori's friend who made her the dress she is wearing for her part as Rose.  At far right Chris, who played Jack Dawson is with Lori as they try to recreate the Jack and Rose scene on the bow of the Titanic in the movie.

The food was fantastic, with Mary Jane doing a great deal of the food preparation.  And at far right you see a large part of the group at the dining table.

Everyone had a great time.  Over 500 pictures were taken by our new member Linda Weaver and we'll work on getting them available to those interested.  I just captured a few here in an attempt to give you an idea of the function and the fun we all had. At right are Chris and Mary Jane and George and Polly.  Below you see Carey, playing Molly Brown; Mary Kay, playing a steerage class passenger; and Diane and Peggy playing a waiter and steerage class passenger.
