National Harbor Trip, April 2011 |

Welcome to Westmoreland Yachting Association |

The first boating
trip of the year was to National Harbor, April 28 to May 1st. Four
boats and five couples planned to take the trip but sickness and rough
weather on Saturday resulted in two boats cancelling.
Phil and Carey Bolin and Jack and Ann Southard attended the event on Apolonia with Dick and Anita Elmore on their boat Moon Dance. We had a great time and the weather was very good on our traveling days. Below are a few pictures and a short trip report.

Moon Dance left Port Kinsale Thursday after the thunderstorms passed and
arrived in Colonial Beach that evening, mooring next to Apolonia at
Stanford's Marine Railway. We had a sandwich at Dockside Restaurant
and then relaxed a bit on the boats. Underway at 8 am Friday we headed
for National Harbor, planning a stop for fuel in Aquia Creek.

In the channel of Aquia Creek, headed for a marina with fuel, Apolonia picked up a crab pot ... yes, the entire pot. Luckily Aquia Bay Marina was able to life Apolonia out of the water and remove the wire pot and all the hydrilla that was inside the abandoned pot. The time to get the pot off slowed us down a bit, but we were underway by 3:30 pm and arrived at National Harbor about 7:30. |

National Harbor is a large complex and we were glad to get there before sunset. Jack and Ann arrived by car and all six of us enjoyed dinner on board Apolonia. Each couple supplied food so we did not go to bed hungry. We weren't thirsty either! |

Saturday morning we took the water taxi to Old Town Alexandria, had a great lunch and walked about for a while. We came back to National Harbor in time for dinner at a great sea food restaurant, McCormick and Schmidt. |

After dinner we taught Dick and Anita the game of Farkel and played until we
were ready for bed. Sunday morning Moon Dance was underway by 7:30 for
their trip to Port Kinsale. Apolonia left a bit later for its trip to
Colonial Beach and Jack and Ann headed home to Manassas.
A good time was had by all. |
