The Change of Watch, Saturday November 9, 2013, at the Riverboat Restaurant WYA enjoyed the Change of Watch at the Riverboat in Colonial Beach with 38 members and guests. We thank Carey Bolin, Mary Jane Smith and Katherine Smith for decorating. It was an amazing party. We dined, installed a new Bridge for 2014, and danced the night away. Pictures and comments follow. |

The scene of the celebration. The theme - Shorebirds. And they abounded about the room, including this place setting. Amazing work by the three ladies, Carey, Mary Jane and Katherine Smith. And, the Riverboat and their staff were wonderfully accommodating. |
|
||
The party started with smiles all around. Here are Chris and Katherine and George and Polly, in great spirits.
Chris and MJ and Ralph and Kris were also in the mood, as were Anita, Sue and Erin.
I don't know what Carey and Norma were discussing but it surely involved some red wine. Peggy and Diane were settling in at the bar...the girls, a beer and a rum and coke....
It was a ladies night out as you see the beautiful Norma, Patti, and Nancy.
What we failed to find out was the topic of the serious conversation between Bill and Mike. |
|||
Anita is smiling and we think Bill and Buzz may be conspiring, but maybe
just watching some dancers.
At right you see the old Bridge saying their farewells. Thanks to all for their work for the club; Commodore Phil, VC Chris Smith, RC Carey, Treasurer George, Secretary Mary Jane, and IPC Diane Burton...apparently the "Crew in Black." |
|||
The New Bridge gets their start - Commodore Bob Blunt, Rear Commodore Shannon Ritter, Treasurer George Cajigal and Secretary Norma Blunt as they received their flags and pins. Our new Vice Commodore, Bill Bukivicz, and Donna had a prior engagement and could not make the Change of Watch. We sorely missed he and his lovely wife, Donna. Now, they can seriously party!!
Commodore Phil got a wonderful gift, a ship's bell from Diane and Peggy. With that business out of the way - we started to boogey on down...
Dancing, dancing, dancing....... Hips a-swinging and knees a-cracking...
Ralph out on the floor with two lovely ladies (smooooth operator...) and our new Rear Commodore having a good laugh and hugs with Jean, carefully not spilling his drink.
Gary and Nancy stayed on the floor the most of any of us. He's a dancing machine! Ruth and Anita bonding.
Ruth and Jean were not having fun!!! Not. And Ralph and Kris join the tail end of the Conga line.
After a long dance, Dick, Gary and Jean took a needed break. And, I think Katherine, Chris, Phil and Patti were just getting ready to join the group on the dance floor.
Carey and Vicky having a good laugh. And everyone on the dance floor was trying to get the YMCA letters correct and in synch with the song.
Gary has no cares and George really knows how to lead a Conga line of people doing the YMCA dance. Amazing!
Mike grabbed Shannon's cane as a partner for one dance. I think that's what put the smiles on Dick and Chris' face.
Kris and Pat laughing it up. Where are you Ralph? Maybe he was looking for his tie, because Mike appears to have been collecting them. He claimed he was from Tie Land! We can't explain him....we just enjoy the hell out of him! |
|
||
Here the old (as in "past") Commodore is trying to get his tie back from Mike. Bill could not be bothered. At right is the Westmoreland Yachting Association signboard we take to every event, donated to us by Ralph and Kris. It's a handsome sign that we're proud to display.
This panel of pictures shows our first Commodore, Ralph, and our current Commodore Bob (and his wife Norma). The picture of Bob and Norma was taken Sunday morning as Buzz and Doris hosted the COW attendees at their home for a Sunday recovery brunch.
Our Sunday morning hosts, Buzz and Doris. Thanks so much to you two. Ralph and Polly at the bar fixing bloodies and mimosas.
Mary Jane and Carey did most of the food for the buffet and enjoyed doing it. Chris and Mary Jane, bridge members from 2013 (Vice Commodore and Secretary), were major workers at all events throughout the year.
Shannon Ritter, new Rear Commodore, and George Cajigal, the Treasurer for 2014, swapping tales. We're fortunate to keep George in that position from 2013. And at right, Harry and Lori enjoy a leisurely morning cocktail.
Kris and Inga chatting as Bob moves on to join the folks gathered at the
kitchen table...hopefully plotting and planning new adventures. We're a hearty, congenial crew just biding our time with cozy gatherings until the winter dies away to another busy and festive boating season. Ahoy Maties! |
