2013 July 21-28 Long Trip

The long trip started after the Float In and will conclude on Sunday morning, July 28.  The people on the trip included Bob and Norma Blunt for the first day and the following for the entire trip:  Bill and Donna, Phil and Carey, Dan and Elaine, Gary and Nancy, George and Polly and her brother Ted, Steve and Mary Ann, and Mike and Vicky Enos.  Gary and I were talking the other day that we started these long trips with 2 boats last year.  This year 7 for the week.  A nice increase.

On Sunday all listed above sailed to Corinthian YC.  We tied up at a special rate of $30 including electric.  The Commodore of the YC and Jim Test met  us and we were allowed to use their club house to prepare our dinner.  We took a group picture in the Club house just before eating.

Everyone said this was the best stop they have had in a long time.

Here is part of the gang fixing dinner and Phil with the Commodore of CYC.
Bill Bukevicz lost a fender from his boat so we put Apolonia's dinghy down and recovered it.  It sits between Apolonia and Constant II (George and Polly's boat).
We left Monday morning on a beautiful water day ... notice the flat Bay.  Later, on the way to Chesapeake Boat Basin we saw a Menhadin Fleet vessel.
Up the creek to Chesapeake Boat Basin we saw some beautiful homes.
And with the courtesy car provided by the marina all 15 of us had a fantastic dinner at KC's Crabs and Cues in Kilmarnock, VA.  We found a real jewel of a marina just 1.5 miles off the Bay and 2 miles from Kilmarnock, VA.

We left there Tuesday Morning and headed for Somers Cover Marina in Crisfield, MD.  Prime Time and Rhapsody are flying up Tangier Sound to get to Somers Cove.

Patriot, Mike and Vicky's boat, was taking her time waiting for the slow boats.  We all finally arrived at Somer's Cove.  Two foot seas were forecast .... and you guessed it  ,,, the seas were 4 footers.  A ride that George said tested his fun meter.  It finally settled a bit as we moved into Tangier Sound.
But we were all tied up by 1 pm and later that day enjoyed drinks and dinner under the tent on Somer's Cove.   =
We were going to stay two nights at Somers Cove so I had time to walk the docks and take pictures of the 7 boats. Here is Apolonia and Constant II
Here is Our Time and Summer "C"
Here is Rhapsody and Prime Time
Here is Patriot and part of the group at Crisfield Crab and Grille.
Three of the gang relaxing at left.  At right Steve and Dan smiling after they had worked the last two days on an electric problem on Steve's boat.  All fixed now and they were enjoying the moment.
Later Wednesday most were in the pool and we found a new water game for PRYCA.  The ladies on the husbands back and running thru the water.

That evening we tried dinner at Captain Tyler's Crab house.  Terrible meal ... so bad that they agreed to a 50% reduction in the bill.  They must have known it also.

And later Wednesday night we partied on Constant II getting ready for the cold front arriving overnight.

Thursday morning we got up to high winds and cool temperatures.  Summer appeared to have left us.

The water on the Bay and in Tangier Sound was nasty so we decided to stay another day at Crisfield..  Crisfield gave us the third night slip fees free.  We only paid for electric.

We changed our plans, canceling out entirely on Wicomico Yacht Club for Thursday and Friday, and made the decision to move to Dennis Point on Friday for two days.  This change was important to get us across the Bay to the Potomac before the next front.  We are sorry we did not get up the Salisbury River to Wicomico YC but the weather dictated the change.

On Thursday in Crisfield we relaxed, spent some time at the pool, and finally went to the Waterman's Inn for dinner.  This was a great improvement over the last two meals.  We enjoyed.
Even to the point of dessert as Ted and George preview the offerings.  And later during the desserts the ladies treated us to the "Napkin Head" preview.  Great Fun.

Friday afternoon we were all underway for Dennis Point Marina, crossing the Bay. We made it comfortably.  Seas were flat.  Steve and Bill fished for a while and caught two Blues for us to eat. We all finally arrived at Dennis Point and had a great shared dish meal.
Here are some of the boats and part of the gang ... Steve, Dan, Mary Ann, and Elaine.
and more of them plus the gang at the shared meal Friday evening.

Dennis Point Marina gave us an electric golf cart to tour the facility and provided a fire pit and wood for a fire.  We cooked on their gas grill near our boats Friday night.

Saturday morning we continued to enjoy the facility and each others company.
We sat around, went to the pool and simply relaxed.
Polly made her entrance and her brother Ted was continuing to enjoy himself.  He traveled with George and Polly and we all thoroughly enjoyed his company.
Saturday evening we made reservations at the local restaurant and made it there on time.  It took over 2 hours to get our food and I was a bit unset.  The restaurant manager does not know how to get the food out of the kitchen.  When it finally arrived the food tasted good, but the restaurant gave us the food for free as it was not timely.  We paid for good service from the wait staff and our drinks.  We like Dennis Point but they really need to get a good restaurant manager in place. We later learned that the entire camp ground people, over 70 of them, have boycotted the restaurant because of similar problems.
Sunday morning we had to wrap it up and all go home.  At right you see George and Polly get underway.  Steve and Mary Ann left a day earlier as they had a commitment in Colonial Beach Saturday evening.
Here is Patriot getting underway and Bill on Prime Time watching. Mike and Vicky were the first to leave on Sunday.
Here you see Prime Time steaming by Apolonia going down St Mary's River.

And finally the old steering wheel with no one there.  The trip is over.

We had 7 boats make the entire trip and were joined on the first day by Bob and Norma on Norma Joan at Corinthian.  We stopped at 4 marinas.  All were different but very nice places to visit.  We all got along.  We had three days on the Chesapeake Bay, two of them flat calm and beautiful.  The middle trip, from Chesapeake Boat Basin to Crisfield showed us 4 footers and we were glad to get off the water.  A fantastic trip.  Not all was perfect though.  Gary and Nancy on Summer "C" lost an engine coming into Dennis Point.  The details of the problem is not yet known.  We had 3 bad meals in restaurants.  In one we were given the meals free and in the other a 50% reduction was given.  So we ended up happy.  We are now planning next year's trip and we'll try to better this one.  It will be hard.
