2013 May 25-27 Memorial Day at Coles Point Marina This event was a change from last year's Memorial Day at Tall Timbers. We had a fantastic time, all planned by Bill and Donna Bukevicz with help from all the WYA boating members at Coles Point. Several of us tried to get there on Friday but the gale force winds stopped us. The Potomac was boiling. By Sunday all but one boat made it to the event and we had a nice crowd of 35-40 people; some who kept their boat at Coles Pt, some arriving by boat, and others by car. Carey and I traveled on Apolonia from Colonial Beach along with Shannon and Sue on their boat S.S. Ritter Saturday morning. Shannon said he felt like a rubber duck in a Jacuzzi. I can guarantee it was a worse ride than Carey and I ever had crossing the Atlantic to the Bahamas. The seas were 3-5 feet and had a very short period. Just uncomfortable! Saturday night Chef Phil Rogers cooked up Frogmore Stew for a super dinner. Appetizers and desserts were generously provided by members. Sunday morning was breakfast and a Bloody Mary contest that Carey Bolin won for the best Bloody! Yeah Carey ... the prize was a $25 gift certificate which was quickly used at the Landings Restaurant at Coles Point. After a pleasant afternoon Bill and other WYA members took off on two boats (Bill and Donna's and Steve and Mary Ann's) for Tall Timbers to watch the boat burning while the rest of us grilled steaks on the dock. It just couldn't get any better. Monday was pack up day and traveling home for most of us. We welcomed new members Mike and Sandy Rowzee from Warrenton with the presentation of their burgee. The one screw up was that I lost a bunch of pictures taken throughout the weekend so all I have left are those below. It irks me as I had some great pictures of a new game played at the event ... put an orange in some panty hose and tie the hose around your waist ... now hit another orange to the finish line by swinging your hips to swing the orange filled panty hose bat. What a hoot! |

Commodore Carey. At far right Donna and Elaine Braud running about as
they w set up the party site. Note the line of new "cottages" at Coles
Point...available rentals. The "rec" center is under renovation and will be
a righteous party location in the very near future.
