September 15, 2012 Fellini at the Farm ...a new event this year was "Fellini on the Farm," held at the Bolin's farmhouse in Farnham. The plan .... have a relaxing Saturday afternoon and evening, playing games, sampling delectable appetizer and then gathering around the tables for a leisurely Italian feast. |
||||
We played behind the Bolin's house and the happy group posed at their barn...puppies included. |
|
|||
In the back yard, along side our neighbor's corn fields and
under the trees Carey and MJ set up the tables in a spoke fashion around a
round center table and decorated the area in a true rustic Italian style. No
buffet...no paper or plastic goods. A bit of work....at a house with
no dishwasher...but definitely worth it.
Many willing people helped make this a successful affair. Carey was the organizer and MJ was the main helper. Chris and MJ, Harry and Lori, and Jack and Ann showed up at the house Friday night to begin final set ups early Saturday. Then, members began arriving with their delectable dishes....from appetizers to desserts...that were served family style to the celebrants under the light-festooned trees. |
|
|||
Several members said they felt like they were in Tuscany so the decorations really worked. And, then there was the wine....and more wine....and champagne ... and Kathy Carroll's wonderful sparkling (semi-lethal) sangria, served from a often-reinforced pitcher of mulling fresh fruits. The appetizers were delicious and beautifully presented, as you can see in the photo below. |

||
The afternoon moved along easily with lots of socialization and game playing. Members that couldn't make the event were sorely missed.
The tables await.....while Dick plays photographer.
Linda Weaver's antipasto and Ann's sausage bread in the
foreground...and is that Dick taking pictures of the grass!?!
Ann and Shannon....fierce cornhole competitors. Or, is she preparing to take a dive? |
||||
The guest bedrooms were all taken, and the tents started
going up. Mike and Vicky chose to stay inside the cottage and Sue and
Shannon retired to the comfort of the local hotel. Others made the
trek home or to their boat at the evening's end. Carey and MJ take a much-needed pause to check on the table setting, just as the lights came on.
|
||||
As the sun set we took our places and really started the feast.
We paused during dinner to be serenaded by Becky and Linda,
joining in songs, as best we could. So wonderful to have our very own
ensemble! Their performance provided just the lingering effect that
the meal needed. Later we adjourned to our traditional WYA bonfire and
toasted a few s'mores....or more.
Thank you Linda for giving WYA our on special song. Now, if we could only sing better. |
||||
Sunday morning found Chris at the kitchen stove, making his
gourmet omelets for everyone who stayed over. It kept him busy for a
while. At right Gary and Nina enjoy coffee as they await their tasty
breakfast. Of course, mimosas were plentiful! After all....we're
WYA! This was our first run at a progressive sit-down dinner of this sort. We're looking forward to fine-tuning the process for another future event and doing a series of various cuisines was suggested. Maybe Spanish next year. Whatever it might be....all members will be welcome to stay over....bring their tents and the puppies ... and be prepared to linger and enjoy.

And here are a few more pictures taken by Dick Elmore. His wife Anita pouring a glass of wine and a host of members relaxing in the sunny afternoon.
Linda Weaver grabs Josey for a while as most of us were partaking of some of the fine wines available for the festival.
Here is just one more picture of the table settings and decorations. It really made it feel like Tuscany. At far right Linda and Becky entertain us with song.
And now a picture of the group enjoying the singing and food. And one of the bonfire we all enjoyed.
