2012 Christmas Lights & tour in Old Town Alexandria, VA. Nancy Vineyard came up with the idea and four couples from WYA decided to attend the Alexandria Va Christmas Lights event that included a tour of four historic places. We also attended Bob and Norma Blunts Open House that all of the Club was invited to. The four couples who participated in the Christmas Light Tour included: Gary and Nancy Vineyard, Ralph Mason and Kris Butera, Bob and Norma Blunt, and Phil and Carey Bolin. We had a wonderful evening. |

We started at the Open House at Bob and Norma's Alexandria home on Saturday afternoon (1-4 pm).. A beautiful start to the holiday season. Food, company, and hosts were tremendous. After the open house closed Ralph, Kris, Gary, Nancy, Carey and I returned to our Old Town Alexandria motel to get ready for the Christmas Lights tour in Old Town. We met up with Bob and Norma about 6 pm and the eight of us stood in line to get into the Gatsby Inn. There were a half dozen young children in line and Norma got them signing the 12 Days of Christmas with great hand and body motions that kept the capacity crowd smiling and got us all into the Christmas spirit. The best picture I have of the kids is shown just below at right. I really do wish I was good enough to have captured Normal leading the signing. It was truly amazing.
It almost brought tears to our eyes see these young children signing our favorite Christmas carols. It really can't get much better then this. Wished more of you could have made it out. It is something to think about for next year. Norma is standing just out of sight to the right of the children,. You can see her left hand in the very right side of the picture.
After we finished with the signing we started tours of three places in Old Town. You see at right a docent telling us a story about making chocolate and most of us listening.,
After the tours we walked to King Street and settled in at Landini Brothers
Italian Restaurant. Bob had to light up his smart phone to give some
of us enough light to see the menu. Does that say we are getting
old??? Anyway, we finished a 4 star meal at the restaurant and walked outside stuffed to the gills. An amazing evening we all enjoyed. Most of us met for breakfast the next morning and now we're really settling in for the holidays. |
