Past Events 2012 May Flag Raising ... over 40 jolly members joined together for the Flag Raising and Blessing of the Fleet, followed by a short General Membership Meeting. Our hearty and sincere thanks to Ed, Bob and Norma Blunt (owners of the Lighthouse Restaurant and Bayside Marina) who hosted our function there. Hats off to Mary Jane Smith and Carey Bolin - the instigators, decorators, and directors of the Cinco de Mayo party - whose yeoman efforts made the affair a great event. AND, very importantly our thanks to all those that contributed food and drink that sustained us throughout the day! It was casual, it was friendly, it was fun, it was WYA! |
|||||
The Flag Raising started at 11:30 am on May 5 and, while I don't have pictures of the ceremony, we enjoyed the Cub Scout troop 258 helping us raise the U.S. and Club flags. We also salute David Adams, our guest speaker, Commander of Division 25 of the District 5 Coast Guard Auxiliary. He offered up a genuinely entertaining and informative talk about safety that held everyone's interest. And, I'm certain not one of us will ever look at a bass boat in the same way! |
We recognized the Past Commodores of the Club during the ceremony; Ralph
Mason, Norm Johnson, Ruth Lovelace, and Diane Burton. Ralph Mason, the
first Commodore, gave a gift of a boson's whistle to every Bridge member and
all past Commodores. Thanks, Ralph. That, and your comments were
so thoughtful.

After the ceremonies we held a brief General Membership meeting, conducted
a very short amount of business and passed out a new burgee to returning
members Ralph Mason and Kris Butera.
Sorry there are no photos of the ceremonies, but we made up for it with the following pictures of Cinco de Mayo party.

Bountiful food could be found at the "Cantina," that Carey and Mary Jane put together. And, we literally ate and sipped the entire afternoon away.
MJ's and Carey's favorite decor item was the chicken atop the sandbags to the left of the table in the picture to the right. We have to find them jobs! And then we have the perpetually flushed Carey getting a sun shade from Gary Vineyard. I don't think he carried it around for long, but Carey really enjoyed it while it lasted.
Folks gathered up and down the Marina deck with plates and cups and bottles and lively conversations.
And, it kept going,,, even extending to the piers where Bill Bowman's boat Cherish and Ruth and Jean's boat Rutean Pleasure were berthed.
We found lots to catch up on after the cool winter season and everyone just lingered all afternoon. It was good to see Chris Vasquez!
Here we see Carey and Sue waving to say Hi. At right Stuart and Debbie brought perspective new members Daniel and Crissy who were fun additions to the group..
It might have been Cinco de Mayo, but it was also the day of the annual
running of the Kentucky Derby, which we had planned to watch on the aft deck
of Bowman's boat. But Bob Blunt suggested we try out the Boater's
lounge at the Lighthouse Restaurant. A great party spot - comfortable and
spacious. And then our merry group began to disperse - heading out for
a late dinner and the close of a satisfying day. A fine group we are!
Now.....the boating begins! Check the calendar for coming events and, if you want to get together "just because" for a land event or cruise to anywhere, just send out an e-mail and we'll make it happen!
