Welcome to Westmoreland Yachting Association |

Everyone was wondering whether Coles Point Plantation would be ready for the
Float In, as the new owners were doing a major facelift on the facility.
Thursday morning, one day before the start of the event, there were no slips
in the river side basin, but by Thursday evening there were in. I pulled into our
slip at 1:30 Friday and had power and water hooked up just one hour later.
It was amazing what the Marina pulled off the last week. The weekend
was a success. Great food. Plenty of activities and the
camaraderie of a lot of boaters.
We had 16 attendees: Phil and Carey Bolin, along with Ann and Jack Southard, on Apolonia, Gary and Nancy Vineyard on Summer “C,” Mike and Vicky Enos on Patriot, Bill and Donna Bukevicz on Prime Time, Ralph Mason and Kris Butera on Party Time, Bob and Norma Blount on Norma Joan and Ruth Lovelace and Jean Yeagley on Rutean Pleasure and Summer C one night.. We all had a good time participating in the CUP competition and there appeared to be some interest in working before the event happens next year so that we stand chance of winning the cup. We had the talent this year. We just did not prepare before hand since we did not know of the interest in other than just having fun. We'll talk about that over the next year. |
|||||
We all arrived Friday. Mike, Vicky, and their dog Daisy are ready to start the weekend. At far right Carey and Shannon are also sipping some kind of drink to ready themselves for the upcoming fun.
Apolonia got tied up mid afternoon Friday and had electric and water hooked up at the new piers just an hour later. The owners and workers at Coles Point just did a great job getting it all together so we could have a good time. And of course it all played out just fine at the Tiki bar outside the restaurant.
A special pleasure was giving Bill and Donna Bukevicz their burgee. They are the newest members. Although we saw Bill throughout the weekend and he was a player in the Cup events, when we passed on the burgee, only Donna was aboard. Welcome Bill and Donna. Mike and Vicki walked the docks and said hello to all the WYA members including Ralph and Kris on Party Time and Jean who was visiting the Mason's boat.
Friday night was a Neptune competition. Just look at some of the costumes. At far right you see the tents set up to handle the food events on the beach during the weekend.
And look at the dancing going on Friday night to win the "Neptune" crown. It really was fun to watch. We also enjoyed looking at Bill Bowman's glass dinghy. Can you imagine some company making such a thing? Bill is always interested in the unique boats built over the years and now has in his inventory, the glass dinghy.
At the start of the Cup competition Bill Bukevicz and Jean Yeagley are competing in the life jacket event and having a ball. |
|
||||
Here they are after the competition, all smiles. At far right Jack and Jean and Gary and Norma get ready to compete in the life ring toss.
And here we see Mike and Vicky getting ready for the dinghy race. We're all ready to have some fun. At far right you see the inside of the tents and some of the over 140 people who attended the weekend function.
Now, these pictures are from the morning when people were getting ready for
the competition. Sandy Doucette and Frank, friends from Aquia Harbour
Yacht Club were in line for the
Saturday lunch.
Dick and Anita could not make the entire event but stopped by Saturday afternoon to say Hi and wish us well. |
|||||
As Saturday progressed, people lined up for the evening dinner followed by the dancing to the 25th Hour band.
And here is some more of the dancing.
I don't have pictures of the Sunday morning brunch ... it was great. And as the Sunday morning turned into afternoon most of the boats moved out on their way to their home ports. That is except for those on week long cruises like a couple of WYA boats. |
