Cape Charles Trip 19-21 September 2014 We planned a trip to Cape Charles Virginia realizing that it may prove problematic with the weather. Five boats were on board for the trip. As the weekend approached the weather forecast for Monday, the day we were coming back was not good! On Friday, our departure date, 3 boats cancelled. Phil and Carey, Gary and Nancy and Bob and Gail said they had firm plans for Tuesday and could not chance not getting home on Monday as the trip called for, so they cancelled. Bill and Donna and Steve and Mary Ann decided to make the trip. Bill and Donna's friends from Nashville, Burt and Kat, were on board for the trip. On Thursday night as they made the decision to go for it, Burt played his guitar at Coles Point, while the group cooked rockfish for dinner. Gary Vineyard was having a good time singing with Burt as he played some older country tunes. Steve and Mary Ann made it down late Thursday and joined them on Dock A. Friday morning Bill and Donna, Steve and Mary Ann and Burt and Kat took off for Tides Inn and had a pleasant ride, then a 2 foot roller day across the Chesapeake to Cape Charles on Saturday. Bill, Donna, Steve, Mary Ann, Burt and Kat went out on a charter fishing trip on Sunday enjoying a great time at Cape Charles ... no fish caught but the Bloodies were fantastic. On Monday they decided to come home and did … but admitted it was a rough ride. We’ll give them the “rough rider” prize for the year as they handled a mean Bay ride to enjoy a weekend at Cape Charles. It turned out that Bob and Gail were committed as Bob had to work. Phil, Carey, Gary and Nancy landed in Colonial Beach, as Gary and Nancy moved up the Potomac from Coles Point for the weekend. They as we, were not able to chance missing the trip home on Monday. We enjoyed a fantastic weekend enjoying restaurants in the area and running around in the golf cart. We did decry the fact we could not make it to Cape Charles. On Saturday we got on board Paget (new 22’ picnic boat for Bolins) and made the trip to Cobb Island for a crab dinner and were joined by Commodore Bob and his lovely wife Norma on their fishing boat, Fishing Fancy. A fun afternoon. All in all a good weekend, but we were just not able to have all five boats complete the Cape Charles trip. Again, we award the rough rider award to Bill, Donna, Steve and Mary Ann along with their guests Burt and Kat. |
