Cobb Island Summer Kick Off

21-22 June 2014

Maybe the best event of the year.  Cobb Island changed it up and combined the town's yearly festival with the Cobb Island Yacht Club Summer Kick Off.  We thank Bill Hocker, the CIYC Commodore, and his wife for arranging the affair from afar.  We have Mike and Vicky Enos to thank for organizing our participation in the event. Over 16 boats from WYA joined in the fun.  You'll see pictures and descriptions below.  We had two returning additions to the Wall of Fame as Gary Vineyard won 2nd place in the Kayak race and Mike and Vicky Enos won first place for best decorated boat. 

 

Friday night started with a steak and seafood feast at the Rivah Restaurant, many Saturday activities that included a Captain John's Seafood Buffet and a Cobb Vegas gambling scene.  The other events were varied and enjoyable.  On Sunday we had a hang-over Breakfast Buffet that we all needed.

 
 

We started by arriving and checking in with each other.  Here's Donna relaxing on Apolonia and at the other end of the back deck, Bill and Bob.

 
  Mike came over to visit with Maddy and Bill Bowman and his crew came by to have a look at the Broward docked next to us..  
  Friday night was buffet at Rivah at Pirate's Den.   Food was better than fantastic.  
  Phil Rogers got an early plate and Kris was all smiles after filling hers.  
  Here's a gang of WYAer's; Gary, Nancy, Mary Ann and Steve, who were going after the food.  At right you see our Commodore's boat Norma Joan with the large burgee flying.  
  At the bar after dinner Friday, Nancy, Carey, Ann and Phil Rogers enjoyed a drink...or several.  Outside the marina was full..  
  Several of the crew ate on the lawn.  Here's Bill, Beth, Janet and Amanda.

And special to the group is Gary Vineyard 2nd place winner in the Saturday morning Kayak race.  See his picture also on the WALL of FAME.

 

  
  Saturday afternoon brought many activities including a Seafood Buffet at Captain Johns ... I didn't get many pictures there, bit I did snap Gayle and Anita enjoying the band ... great oldies at the Scotch Tasting event at Scuttlebutts.    
  Brad and Clare  enjoy a leisurely dinner.  And, event attendees gathered for mid-day mimosas at Bill Hocker's lovely home on the water.

  Mike and Vicky return to the Wall of Fame as winners of the best decorated boat for the Cobb Island Summer Kick Off.   Now we just need to decide if Ralph and Kris where smiling about the food or our club winning the Best Decorated Boat event .. I'd put my money on "both."     
  Mary Ann ran around inviting the club to party Saturday night on Rhapsody and at right Donna was showing off the caricature several of the members had done by an artist at the Cobb Island Festival.
