May 24-26 Memorial Day Weekend at Coles Point Marina Our Vice Commodore Bill Bukevicz says, "It was a great Memorial weekend. I would like to thank all the members who attended this event. The cover dishes presented by the members were great and the food was so good it all went. I would like to give a shout out to the following people. Mike Rowzee with his buddy Stacey for an excellent job smoking the ribs and chicken; My wife Donna for being a great first mate and helping me with organizing this event; to Carey, Shannon, Sue , George and Polly for cooking up an excellent breakfast after the Bloody Mary Contest; Margot and Jeff for being judges of the Bloody Mary contest and signing up as new members. Another shout out to Kevin and Gloria for becoming new members and a special thanks to Don Radeke for presenting the toast to the American flag. Remember the weekend is to thank all of our Armed Service personnel both past and present for their sacrifice and service in defending our Country and us. And not to be forgotten Don and Sharon Radeke for winning the Bloody Mary Contest and the $25 gift certificate at the Cole's Point Restaurant. Till next time, Bill Bukevicz, Float Captain and VC. See below for details of the event." |

I never get all the pictures I want ... it is too much fun during the event to worry about pictures. But we have a few. On Friday Gary and Carey said hello and a group of us went to Coles Point Tavern for Friday night dinner after bringing the boats down. It was a great dinner. We found out later we had about 35 ti 40 WYA members and over 10 guests for the 3 day event. We had a great time and signed four new members. Read on! |
||||
After having a great dinner at Cole's Point Tavern we enjoyed viewing the sunset at Cole's Point Tavern and then got back to Cole's Point Marina and knew that our spot on the River Beach was marked by the Pop Up Camper that Bill and Donna put up to mark the spot.
Saturday morning we enjoyed the views of the facility and hungrily watched Mike Rowzee (left in the picture at right) as he and a very good friend watched over the cooking of the smoked chicken and pork we would eat later in the day.
Here are the three master minds of the week end event. Mike Rowzee, the chef who prepared the main course (smoked ribs and chicken) and Donna and Bill who pulled all the rest of the event together. Thanks so much to all three of you. Three Cheers and More!!! There were of course other helpers as Bill mentioned above and you see some of them putting the finishing touches on our dinner at far right.
We're now all sitting and eating and enjoying each others company. And
you see a view of the facilities again.
During the Saturday festivities Don Radeke gave a very special Toast to the Flat that made us all remember why we celebrate Memorial Day. Thanks so much Don. |
||||
Here is Bill our Vice Commodore again and at right the troop that helped Mike Rowzee prepare the Chicken and Ribs.
But we are boaters. Ralph and Kris came on Party Time with some of
their family. And at far right you see Shannon Ritter, the Rear
Commodore, and George Cajigal, the Treasurer, walking the piers. I
think they are going to the Saturday evening dinner.
It is interesting that we have more than 6 boater couples in the club from Coles Point Marina. They were all here plus those that traveled down from Colonial Beach. |
||||
Now a few more pictures of the group at dinner ... Norma, Sue, Patti, and Sharon and Ralph and Kris. |
||||
And some more. Phil Rogers catching a quick bit and at far right is Donna Bukevicz's brother who was our DJ for the day. He did a fabulous job. A personable fellow we all enjoyed.
And some more of the group that had such a good time.
At far right you see Gary Vineyard driving his golf cart to ferry us around
the grounds. The picture shows him taking our Commodore Bob Blunt on a
ride with some skillets back to the boats. The Bolin's dog Maddy is
trying to catch a ride.
Gary and Nancy's idea to bring the golf cart saved us lots of walking. Thanks to you both. They brought the golf cart in a horse trailer they hitched to their pickup. |
||||
And some of our guests had such a good time they paid their dues and joined. At left we see Kevin and Gloria Dunckle who have their 31 foot boat Mornin Glory at Coles Point Marina. They have 7 children, the youngest has just graduated from college. At right you see Commodore Bob passing the WYA burgee to our other new members Jeff Fiehler and Margot Snyder-Gibson who live in Severna Park MD. They were the Bloody Mary contest judges so we treated them kindly.
On Sunday a few of us went back to Cole's Point Tavern where we had a great meal on Friday night. Not to be repeated the meal was bad. But we had a good time on the water.
Here are Mike and Vicky out for a stroll and at right you see a gang of fellows trying to get a plan together for our long trip that starts the 20th of July at the conclusion of the PRYCA Float In. We got it done ... you'll hear more about it soon.
Nancy is relaxing with the Bolin's dog Maddy and in the other picture are Bill, Vicky and Mike simply enjoying life.
Here is a picture of the gang at the second trip to Cole's Point Tavern ... where the food was not so good and at right the start of the Sunday morning Bloody Mary Drink Contest.
And here are the winners ... Don and Sharon Radeke along with a view of the
Sunday night sunset.
And then we all had to go home on Monday. None of us were ready for that. Simply a fabulous weekend. |
