2014 Plan Fest

At 1 PM Saturday, January 25 2014 the members gathered to plan the year.  Commodore Bob Blunt and Rear Commodore Shannon Ritter devised a slightly different format for event planning.  Shannon will get volunteers for each of the major boating months to be Float Captain for a month.  That Float Captain will be responsible for major club Plan Fest approved events in that month and for other impromptu activities.  This spreads the work around and should increase the new and creative events we'll be exposed to for the year.  Shannon said he would "collect" the Float Captain's as we discussed the major events that would anchor the schedule.  It worked ... and the resulting Calendar of Events for 2014 is posted to the 2014 Schedule page.

Before starting the Meeting and Plan Fest we all had hot dogs and chili along with our favorite drinks, except for Mike Enos who could not find his favorite Miller Light.  Next time Mike!  After we ate, Commodore Bob Blunt held a short general membership meeting to conduct a bit of business and introduced two new memberships to the club.  He then turned the meeting over to Shannon, our Rear Commodore to handle the Plan Fest.

The members started gathering and Norma, with help from some club memebers, set out the food  We proved to be hungry and thirsty, in spite of the cold weather.

  And to confirm we had cold weather Steve Andrews passed along some pictures of Coles Point Marina where over 12 of our members reside.  Solid ice around the piers and boats still in the water. It just looks cold.
  Well, back to the Plan Fest where we walked the buffet line and picked up our memberships cards.  Nancy took charge of passing them out and collecting the $5 fee for food and refreshments.

  Janet Coleman and Phil Rogers getting to know one another and Norma took her turn passing out membership cards. 
  Commodore Bob started the General Membership Meeting and Phil filled the wine glasses at the tables. 
  First course of business was to introduce new members.  The first new membership of the year included Don and Sharon Radeke.  Bob gave them their new burgee and we are anxious to get to know them. Dale Breer is the next new member.  A retired Navy guy he and his wife Rhonda have joined our ranks.  Rhonda could not be at the meeting but we'll get to know her as the year progresses. 
  Our Rear Commodore Shannon took charge and started the Planning festival ... the main reason for this gathering.  He marched us through the year quickly and efficiently while allowing everyone to express their opinion. 
  We never cussed but discussed and finished the day with a 2014 plan that is posted to the 2014 Schedule page.  It's going to be a fun year!  Bill Bukevicz described a great plan for August to travel short distances to marinas with pools and good restaurants to ensure we chilled out during the hottest month of the year.
