2014 Long Trip Our third year with a long trip and it keeps getting better! Most boats on the trip left Pt. Lookout at the mouth of the Potomac on the last day of the Float In, but we were joined by one other boat. We gathered at Spring Cove Marina on Solomon's Island for cocktails and dinner at Stoneys on Sunday night -- the trip had started. Next we traveled to Herrington Harbor South for a day of swimming and pool-side banter, then motored on Tuesday to Henderson's Wharf in Baltimore for two days. Then underway for Ego Alley in Annapolis MD where we enjoyed our best meal. Watching weather predictions for Saturday, we decided to skip a return to Solomons and, on Friday, headed to Dennis Point Marina on St. Mary's River for a relaxing two day stay. See the details below. |
||||
Seven boats and 15 people made the long trip. You've got Phil and Carey on Apolonia, without pictures right now. Next, George and Polly with Polly's cousin Judy on board Constant II. Then we had Dan and Elaine on Our Time. |
||||
Follow that with Bob and Gail on Gail Winds and Bill and Donna on Prime Time.
Gary and Nancy on Summer "C" were along for the third year and Steve and Mary Ann on Rhapsody for their second.
Prime Time and Rhapsody as they passed Apolonia on the way north from Solomon's Island to Herrington Harbor South. It was a simply beautiful day underway. In fact, we only had one hour of slightly choppy weather on the entire 8 day trip. We were all smiles. Not many pictures of the first two stops ... Sunday at Spring Cove Marina and Monday at Herrington Harbor South.
Here's the well-marked entrance to Herrington Harbor South marina, taken from Apolonia as we were leaving. At right, Bill and Donna on Prime Time at their berth in Baltimore, with Apolonia to their port..
The gang still in Baltimore on Tuesday evening, heading to Fells Point for Dinner. The only missing long tripper is Bob
Mayer. Where were you Bob? Yes, we did know where Bob was.
At right, a part of the group patiently awaiting the first round of cocktails. |
||||
And here, more of the group mugging for the camera.
More of the happy mariners. Last year we made great fun of the fact we had some bad meals. This year ... every meal was fantastic.
Our second day in Baltimore - massages at the local spa.....libations for everyone., getting ready for another night on the town.
We're soooo bad sometimes, but always ready to rock and roll.
The guys talked about something ... can't recall the subject. The ladies took care of pets and champagne uncorking. It's an art well done by the first mates.
That evening the majority of the group went to dinner at Karis. The claim was "a superb meal."
After the Baltimore stay, all, but Constant II (who
headed to Solomons) made our way to Ego
Alley in Annapolis for Thursday evening. Rhapsody coming in ... on one engine as they lost a raw water pump on
the way. Fixed in less than a day in Annapolis there
was no delay on the trip.
The story of our travels during this period revolved around a forecast of high winds on Saturday morning. We all were going to Solomon's for Friday night after stopping at Annapolis Thursday. We changed our plans to avoid the Saturday morning high wind area on the Chesapeake. From Baltimore on Thursday morning Constant II motored to Solomon's Island then on to Dennis Point for Friday staying out of the way of the high winds Saturday morning and having two decent low mileage days to Dennis Point.. The rest of the group, having a higher speed, left Annapolis on Friday and made the 75-mile trip to join George, Polly and Judy at Dennis Point...one of our favorite stops. |
||||
Lunch was on the agenda at waterside in Annapolis. Very enjoyable. Prime Time was secure in her slip as we ate at Pussers on the water.
Gail Winds, Summer "C" and Our Time secured to the Ego Alley Wall
for the overnight stay and at right you see Bill and Donna chilling on Prime Time later
in the day.
|
||||
Bob and Gail hosted the group for cocktails at Annapolis on Gail Winds before dinner. We have a good picture of us courtesy of a young Columbian gal we met on the Alley ... shown at right.
More partying to do, we started early and then made it to McGarvy' for dinner.
The group voted McGarvey's in Annapolis as the best meal of the trip.
Friday morning we headed out for Dennis Pt Marina and our buddies on
Constant II.
We're now into the last two days of the trip.
|
||||
Let the party continue. We decided to empty the refrigerators. Picnic tables and a bonfire were provided. After a good meal at the restaurant on Friday night, we prepared a scrumptious brunch, followed by an equally delicious dinner on Saturday. Gary Vineyard made a great sausage gravy and others prepared biscuits, eggs, scrapple, sausage and assorted sides for the fantastic brunch. And, I think there were some bloodies and mimosas prepared as well.
During brunch preparation we even saw Dan's skills at making scrambled eggs. Gary was smiling as everyone patted him on the back for the excellent Sausage Gravy. It was that good!
An easy Saturday, including naps during the afternoon rainstorm.
Yes, and more of the easy Saturday.
The girls grouped together to have a little fun and discuss something or another. Carey and Nancy were into enjoying with the best of them.
And now, before we finish out the last evening, take a look at a few of the week's other pictures. Donna, Gail and Judy enjoying a moment together in Baltimore. Apolonia resting in Annapolis.
On Apolonia enjoying a Bloody after our arrival in Annapolis and at right a good picture of three of our boats in Ego Alley ... Gail Winds, Summer "C" and Our Time.
I'll give another $10 to the first person who gives me the name of the person who is standing on and in the sandals at right. Far right just some guys hanging out.
As we were sitting on the boats in Baltimore, Vice Commodore Bill said he'd go buy some Polish sausages to cook at Dennis Point and volunteered to also cook whatever others brought. And, he was good to his word and cooked all to perfection. Everyone brought tasty additions to the feast. Thanks to all..
Dan at ease. Food, food, food.
No one went hungry or thirsty.
Then we started the required bon fire and danced to the music by the DJ at the restaurant. Carey was a bit miffed at me as you can tell until I put down the camera and waltzed to the dance floor.
All in all .... a super time ... no one wanted it to stop. Think about joining us next year and offer up you suggestions for trip destinations.
